Setting Sail. Destination Metaverse.

Ok, I’m going to be real honest. I don’t know a single thing about crypto currency, NFTs, ETH, Bored Apes, Crypto wallets, OpenSea, Rarible, Royalties, Minting, the METAVERSE…none of it. I have heard of all these things, they have been jangling around in my head as something I should try to understand and Facebook just upped the ante just this very week by renaming their company “Meta” and reorienting to the metaverse. Okkaaay. So, what is this metaverse that they speak of? Here is how they packaged up and explained the metaverse. I must say, Mark Zuckerberg is very brave in this video because it seems extremely easy to parody. I have overheard many people chuckling at the prospect of the metaverse, including me! But within just one short week I became fully immersed and intrigued by what the future holds. Like Shackelton setting out to explore the Antarctic at the turn of the the 20th century, I am itching to set up an expedition of my own to this unknown and mysterious land.

The metaverse is a neologism typically used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual universe. The metaverse in a broader sense may not only refer to virtual worlds but the entire spectrum of augmented reality. Wikipedia
This is all very interesting to me because you see, I am a digital artist at a very interesting time. People are selling and collecting digital art for, in some cases, a lot of money. I don’t particularly like the old method of showing art in galleries, having openings, transporting works around…but I am more than a little intrigued by the prospect of showing my work online and having an impact in a brand new way.
Here’s the massive issue. I am a stone cold beginner. I have a WORLD of knowledge ahead of me to understand.
Let’s do this together. I hope you will come back for day 2 on the expedition to uncover the mysteries of the virtual cosmos.
In the meantime, here is a GREAT explanation of Ethereum! Thanks Coinbase!
